Monster electric quad from Russia

homebuild quad from russia

Thanks to Peter from udobnoposvetu.si I found this set of pictures of a quad homebuilt in Russia by Alex Reah. All four wheels are 26″, left rear wheel is powered by man power and the right one has an engine. The machine can be disassembled and transported easily.

Alex has more experiences with building recumbent vehicles. I especialy like his description of his first recumbent trike he built. You can read not too long article about where he saw a recumbent for the first time and about all the things he had to do in Russia to build such a nice trike.

Back-to-back recumbent tandem trike

It seems that there are only few of them existing. Most probably only three, although there are far more back-to-back recumbent bikes on the roads. It is a bit strange as people are more interested in recumbent tandem trikes than bikes because they are afraid of manouverability and problems with balance. The main two reasons why there are only there or so B2B trikes are that it is pretty complicated to design a trike like this and to build it and the second would be the lenght of the vehicle as it is even longer than the B2B bike.

The picture shows an ICE version and you can read a bit more about it here. There is also a little video showing it in work.

very old recumbent trike

unknown-historical-recumbent-trike

I have found this picture of a very old recumbent trike on the blog called: Tricycle Fetish Blog. It is not a blog about trikes as we know them (or better, which are so normal for us) but a blog about tricycles for children use or for use as a toy.

One reader is asking about any information about this one model. They suppose it is from time around 1935 and as you see it has all necessary incl. drum brakes, steering wheel, padded seat, mudguards, lights etc.

Pretty nice piece, isn´t it?

If you would have any information, you can leave a comment under the original post on Tricycle Fetish Blog.

AZUB trike projects

Here is a press release from AZUB BIKE introducing their new AZUB trike which will be launched in 2010.

Uhersky Brod, Czech Republic, November 25th – press release

Since 2000 AZUB has been developing only recumbent bikes and as a brand it is pretty well known as a producer of durable recumbents which are ready for use in the most difficult conditions which can appear not only on expeditions around the world but also in the city while commuting.

In spring 2009 we started to develop a trike which would fit into our line of recumbents and which would offer all the advantages as our other bikes, like the IPS – Ideal Position System, durability, good design and perfect ergonomy.

At the moment we are working on two different trike projects which we suppose to introduce during the year 2010 when AZUB will celebrate 10 years of recumbent experience. The first one should fit into our ECO line of basic recumbents with affordable price, good quality components and good comfort. We suppose a price around 1700 EUR.

Second project will probably appear later in production, and will fit among our high level bikes like AZUB MAX. Not all features are decided, couple of solutions are still under development, but we are pretty sure that the trike will have unusual system of folding and many other clever features.

This trike project has been developed in cooperation with Technical University in Brno, Czech Republic, with use of the high end computer technologies.

We are very happy that one of the prototypes has already survived a hard test during 8 weeks long expedition around Iceland and western part of Europe. Our friend and actualy also a test rider Brona Nagel (64) cycled over 6000 km during this period and he came back with a fully functional trike and with many ideas how to improve it. At the moment we are working with him to change his ideas into reality and to introduce a perfect trike.

Fully suspended Scorpion

As you can see we are probably the last ones who inform about new HP-Velotechnik Scorpion fx – fully suspended recumbent trike. It looks like HP used the experiences with “head suspension” from Speed Machine and put them on both sides with using the McPherson system of suspension. Rest of the trike seems to be pretty much the same as the common Scorpion.

We are again surprised that HP did not improve any part of the construction of the rear fork, which is the same from the start of the HP production. Well, it works good, and the No Squat design, is also working nice, but if you look at the bike, you can see so many different tubes, and plates with holes etc. etc. Especialy with the rear rack. We think that the design of the rear part could be a little bit more simple and smooth.

Anyway. 17,9 kilos and full suspension are good selling points.
